
Jana Hojdová is a Czech cinematographer, director, and producer. She graduated from the Cinematography Department at FAMU in Prague and has since worked across feature films, documentaries, short films, and music videos.
Her early work as a cinematographer received recognition at several international film festivals. Her film The Dream was nominated for Best Cinematography in the Short Film category at Camerimage in 2015 and received the Jaroslav Kučera Award from the Czech Society of Cinematographers (AČK) in 2016. Her documentary Chronicle – Petr Hojda was also nominated for Best Cinematography in the Short Film category at the 2015 Kamera Oko Film Festival.
Jana later served as Director of Photography on Mirrors in the Dark and And Then There Was Love…, both directed and produced by Šimon Holý. The two feature films had their world premieres at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, while her work on And Then There Was Love… also received recognition from the Czech Society of Cinematographers.
In 2023, she worked as Director of Photography on the feature film Annexions, directed by Haruna Honcoop, as well as on Hello Welcome, directed and produced by Šimon Holý. She continued her collaboration with Holý as the cinematographer of Chica Checa, which premiered in the Crystal Globe Competition at the 2026 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Alongside her filmmaking career, Jana has also served on film festival juries. In 2021, she was a member of the international jury at the Kamera Oko Film Festival, and in 2023, she served as a jury member at FAMUFEST. She is also the founder of the production company Bridge Films.
In 2026, Jana made her feature-length directorial debut with Robert Richardson: The White Devil, a documentary about three-time Academy Award-winning cinematographer Robert Richardson. The film had its world premiere in the Special Screenings section of the 2026 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
